Mid-week report from the "Space Weather Week" in Boulder

"Space Weather Week" was held  at the Space Environment Center in Boulder, Colorado, USA from the 19 to 23 April 1999. More information about the detailed schedule of the "Space Weather Week" can be found at: http://sec.noaa.gov/sww/sww99/index.html

The "Space Weather Week" was divided into three "sessions":

  • Space Weather Tutorial (overview of the Space Weather environment and phenomena)
  • Users (including, service improvements in SEC)
  • Research to Operations

Eamonn Daly and  Alain Hilgers from ESTEC/TOS-EMA attended this meeting and sent home a mid-week report covering the first two sessions. This mid-term report was presented at the "EGS Space  Weather Business Meeting" by Norma Crosby who high-lighted on some of the key-points.

"Extreme environments might be very much larger than nominal."

"Much more severe environments should be anticipated."

"SEC explicitly invites users to participate in decision studies to model real-life behaviour of users and derive value and new product ideas."

A detailed report, including the details of this mid-week report  is being written by the two participants and will soon be available on the "ESA Space Weather Server".
