SDA description

The ISGI is located at the "Centre d'études des Environnements Terrestre et Planétaires", at Saint Maur, France, since the IUGG XIX General Assembly (Vancouver, 1987). From that time, it is under the responsibility of M. Menvielle (Director, CETP), jointly with A. Berthelier (Editor, CETP) until her death in 1997. The basic activities of ISGI, and of ISGI Publication Office are to prepare and circulate magnetic indices and other geomagnetic data, based on the report of magnetic observatories distributed all over the planet.

ISGI contributed to establish a policy of dissemination of geomagnetic indices through electronic networks which prevents any confusing situation. It routinely ensures a quasi real time derivation and dissemination of reliable quick-look values of IAGA geomagnetic indices through the ISGI website.

The ISGI Web site is developed in the frame of the CETP homepage, with mirror link with each ISGI Collaborating Institute Web homepage. The ISGI Web site makes also possible to have easily access to descriptions of IAGA indices, and to all the available data sets.
